HIV+ Alive and Kicking

Where do I begin, I guess I’ll start back in 1986 when my husband put himself in to drug rehab, that’s when we found out he was HIV+, then I got tested and yes I was positive also.

I was so mad, so scared, back then everyone was drying, we didn’t have any hope. We just lived for the moment, raising our son and taken care of business. I just keep thinking, if I can just make it until this event or that event, or that event. Well the years started passing by and we were doing ok. Matter of fact I am a grandmother now, that’s how many years have passed away.

By 1991 we were both on HIV drugs, we’ve taken so many over the years I’ve lost track.

The reason I wanted to write this article is for those of you out there who are HIV – STAY THAT WAY protect yourself, I was married 14 years when I found out, I was infected. To the best of my knowledge I believe I was infected in 1981. For those of you that are HIV+, take care of yourself, I take really good care of myself. I try to keep my stress down, I eat the best that I can afford, I workout 3 times a weeks, sometimes only 2, but my goal is 3. I want to be around, I don’t want to be sick.

One of the things I have always wanted to do, was to talk to people and help educate them about HIV and how to stay safe or how to stay healthy. I have never been able to pursue this because my husband is absolutely against it, he doesn’t want anyone to know he is HIV+, so that stops me and that drives me crazy. So here I am talking to all of you...........
