When You Help Others, You Help Yourself

What kind of energy are you really inviting into your life? If all of your decisions are based on a closed off view of the world that revolves around your sole needs, wants, thoughts and emotions then you can pretty much assume that your energy is actually closing you off from life, rather than inviting it in.

All of us have things about our personal experiences that will enable us to share or teach. The selfless effort that we put forth to help someone or teach him or her something new actually opens our person door to the world around us. Each day you truly have to ask yourself if you are taking an active part in life or if you are standing on the sidelines.

There is not one person who ever had a perfect life. Things and events happen to everyone. Closing off life so that nothing else ever happens to you again, is not a proactive or positive way to deal with the damage that event or “thing” had on your emotional state or life.

When you move on from “the event” and realize that it left you with new dimensions and new experiences you can actually open up and start living. Being able to be empathetic to others and offer support is an empowering position to place you in.

When you stop looking inward and start sharing outward amazing things will come to your life because you are opening yourself up for even more positive energy to come flowing in.

“Doing good” gives you freedom because what you choose to do is your own. It also lets you take responsibility for your actions. This is because you are actually taking control of what otherwise might become chaos. You are making the conscious decision to not be a victim of your circumstance, but instead to become stronger.

University of Massachusetts Medical School did a study to determine who benefited more from helping. Those who received the help or those who provided it. IT turned out that those who helped others were significantly happier and less depressed than those who didn’t.
Another study by the National Academy of Science monitored by MRI the brains of participants’ while they are making decisions about helping. It turns out that making the decision to “do good” activates the brain’s subgenera area, the part of the brain that produces feel-good chemicals, like oxytocin, that promote social bonding.

The key is knowing that you are giving to share, giving to teach or giving to improve. Don’t give with an expectation of getting something in return or getting credit for the action. In order to get the benefit from “doing good” it needs to be done selflessly.

Muster enthusiasm and a sense of total commitment to improving your own life through completely letting go of your own needs to bring happiness or help to someone else’s life. When you let go you actually open yourself up. This is because the act of “doing good” gives you a greater sense of well-being, purpose, significance and fulfillment.

When you help others it gives you a more positive outlook on life because you are outputting positive energy. IT gives you a sense of calmness and relaxation and serenity because you are connecting with others. When you are relaxed you have a significant chance to lower blood pressure levels and the possibility to lessen health issues that are tied to stress and depression.

When you do “good deeds” you actually produce endorphins in your brain. These endorphins not only give you a sense of bliss, but they actually can lessen pain in the body. This all makes you feel great!
By finding meaning in our own lives by helping others we connect with the outside world in a new way and invite new experiences in. Knowing that we are actually helping ourselves by helping others is great motivation for taking a look with open eyes at the world around us and finding even one small way each day that we can bring some sunshine in someone’s darkness. So do something good for you, help someone today!
