Cleaning Out Your Closet

I seem to always have an abundance of clothes.  My closet is full to overflowing.  Many items I have had for a number of years.  Even though I now live in Florida rather than the Pacific Northwest, I have kept a few winter clothes.  Fifty-five or sixty degrees in Florida calls for turtle neck sweaters.

Since my closet is so full, whenever I purchase any new clothing I get rid of something old.  Sometimes, I do a thorough cleaning of my closet.  Some clothes go directly to a donation center and some go into a spare closet in the house.  I want to hold onto them long enough to be sure I am really ready to let go.

This same process holds true for our emotional closet.  We hold onto thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors which no longer fit. As we change, grow, mature, and develop we can look back on certain beliefs and say, “That served me well at the time, but now I can let it go and move forward.”  Some beliefs and behaviors we might set aside for awhile just to be sure we don’t really need them.

Are you hanging onto beliefs and behaviors that no longer serve you?  Are you ready to clean out your closet and make room for something new?

Are you ready?
