For most of us summertime brings back pleasant memories of childhood.
Those last few days of school, when our teachers seemed as if they were almost as happy as us to have some time off.
Finally getting through the school year in what seemed like an eternity.
Sleeping late in the morning, every morning, and then going out to play with friends in the afternoon, and again after dinner.
This would be unheard of during the school year.
Looking forward to time at the beach or mountains either with our family or with friends.
We , as adults, often think back to those care free days, and yearn for them to somehow return.
Although we cannot physically turn back the hands of time, we can allow ourselves to savor those fun filled days and nights.
Who cannot think back to those easy days that seemed to go on and on. Days that were filled by frolicking with our friends, playing baseball or basketball, and of course swimming!
There is a certain sense of gratification about summer. After all we can enjoy long days, fun filled evenings on the deck or at the beach, and of course for those of us who reside on the East Coast, have locally grown fruits and vegetables.
Some of us even plant our vegetable and flower gardens as a rite of passage. Who of Italian lineage does not plant at least one tomato plant?
It would be a sacrilege if we did not.
Of course summer also means cookouts, days spent at the beach, and evenings spent outdoors.
A summer evening has so much to offer. Picture yourself in your favorite lounge chair at twilight and looking at the sky as the stars begin to appear.
See the fireflies glowing here and there. Hear the sound of a frog croaking at a nearby pond, or the sweet sound of a warbler.
Of all the seasons summer makes us reflect on what a truly beautiful world we live in.
We have an armchair on nature right in our own backyard. All that we have to do is look and listen.
Enjoy and have a happy summer.
