’Tis the season to be jolly ... but this year will be dramatically different. As a grandmother, spoiling your first grandchild is certainly expected, buying “My 1st Christmas” and “Grandma’s Little Angel” outfits are at the top of the list, along with showing friends the first picture with Santa Claus. Seeing my daughter loving her daughter is one of life’s best. Oh, such excitement!
But you won’t see me smiling, shopping, and standing in lines at stores this year. I will not be searching for all the cute little pink things for my sweet baby granddaughter. I will not be watching her sitting on Santa’s lap. I will not be checking on her to make sure she does not pull decorations off the tree. She will not be in church cooing with her velvet and lace Christmas outfit on.
Our arms are empty. Our hearts are broken and our lives have been changed forever. You see, five months ago, our first grandbaby was born an angel.
So if you see me staring at your baby and shedding a tear, you will know why. Remember—when you get impatient and annoyed with others during the holiday season, just think about how lucky you to hold your baby in your arms!
Peace and healthy holidays!
