November 2008: Gaylord and I started our journey together in 1984 … we met and really it was love at first sight. We were married on December 7, 1985 and our wedding invitation read, “Together we walk life’s path to what God has prepared for us.” Little did we realize that our wedding vows of “for rich or poor, for better or worse, in sickness and in health until death parts us” would hold so much meaning.
When Gaylord was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, we were so sure that this was a journey that we would walk through together and beat the odds of survivorship. I began to write some thoughts down after Gaylord passed away on October 15, 2008, just five months from his last day of work. I don’t really have the discipline to journal everyday, but rather just write things to help me get through his passing. And so it begins: this journey now for me without my husband and Grace and Michelle without a daddy. I’m not doing this to be morbid but as a way to grieve and be healed … to tell the story of our journey ... a journey that was so short, yet full of faith, hope and love.
