Gospel (Good News) of John:
Chapter 1
(Verse 1–3)
The word is GOD. “HE” (Jesus) was with GOD from the beginning. GOD is the creator …
(Verse 4–5, 9)
“HE” (Jesus) is light for all those who are living in darkness (which can be referred as Satan too).
(Verse 6–8)
John came first to tell everyone that Jesus, son of God will be coming soon. John is the witness of that light.
(Verse 10–13)
Jesus came to world, to his own people (Israelites) who rejected him. But to all those who believed in him were made children of GOD.
(Verse 14)
Here the word has become glesh (Jesus) who lived among us.
(Verse 15–16)
John bears witness again saying Jesus was who he was talking about that would come after him.
(Verse 17–18)
God sent Moses to teach us law. There will be light in our lives when we accept Jesus in our lives. Other than the Son of God (Jesus) no one saw him. As “HE” (Jesus) is from the beginning.
(Verse 1–27)
Here John the Gospel writer is talking about John the Baptist, who would baptize with water. John the Baptist says he is not worthy to remove Jesus’ sandal strap too.
(Verse 28–34)
John the Baptist recognized Jesus, as God told him to look out for the person on whom the Holy Spirit would descend on. Jesus was called the Lamb of God because he sacrificed his life for our sins. John the Baptist baptized everyone in water as a sign of repentance. Jesus also got baptized in water with John the Baptist to initiate his three year ministry.
(Verse 35–42)
John the Baptist was standing with two disciples when he saw Jesus and told them to follow him, and when Jesus saw Andrew following him, Jesus asked him “What are you seeking?” and Andrew asked where he was dwelling. Jesus told Andrew to come and see. So Andrew stayed a day. and then the first person he found was his brother Simon and told him that he had found the Messiah and took Simon to Jesus. When Jesus saw Simon he said, “You are the son of Jonah and will be called Cephas” (meaning stone).
(Verse 43:51)
Jesus chooses each of us to follow him in his own way. That is an example of how he told Nathaniel that Jesus saw him first when he was under fig tree, even before Phillip invited him to see Jesus. It also tells us the significance of spreading the word of God.
These are some prominent features of this chapter. But how do we apply what we’ve learned from these studies?
The answer to that question is explained in examples below.
Example 1: From the life of John the Baptist, we learn that we always have to humble ourselves before God. With our own strength and understanding we cannot do everything, but with God all things are possible.
Example 2: From the interaction of Andrew and the other disciples with Jesus Christ, we learn that unless we spend time with Jesus Christ, our lives will not be transformed. You will experience a beautiful difference in life.
