Love can be a pain! I am not talking about romantic love or lusty love. I am talking about wholesome Biblical love. I’m talking about love the way it was designed by our Maker. 1 Corinthians 13, love.
At some point all Christians have read 1 Corinthians 13. Most of them have read it several times.
When I read it I thought, what a privilege pain! A person who speaks without love is compared to a clanging symbol. Can you imagine the noise a clanging symbol makes? I for one do not ever want to be compared to that!
We can have All Faith and move mountains, but if we do not love, we are nothing. Nothing. God considers us nothing if we do not love.
What is biblical love?
Love is Patient, kind, never jealous or boastful nor arrogant. Love does not act unbecomingly, it does not seek it’s own (I.E. the person doing the loving does not burden others with their troubles), it is not provoked, it does not hold grudges, it bears all things, believes all things, and endures all things. Biblical love is forever. If we have Faith and Hope, but have not love, we are nothing to God. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
If we do not exhibit biblical love towards God, husbands/wives, children and church family what will happen? We will start to sound like clanging symbols. We will gain nothing. God will consider us nothing.
How do we exhibit Biblical Love?
We can’t do it alone! We should be humble, patient, kind, forgiving, enduring towards others. This is not an easy thing to do. It’s a pain. It is painful sometimes to forgive. It is excruciating sometimes to humble ourselves. Being kind to those who oppress us is a bummer.
Love can be a pain!
Praise God that we do not have to go it alone. He sent His one and only Son to die on the cross at Calvary for our sins. If we ask Him to forgive us and accept Him, He will be good and just to deliver on His promises.
