Why Do Christians Feel This Way?

Why are Christians so upset with Pat Robertson? It makes absolute sense for non-believers to question this man’s integrity, faith, and mentality. After all, “the gospel is hid to them that are lost.” Yet, I am completely dumbfounded when I hear other believers do the same.

If you read your Bible, you will see and know that the prophets were not very popular, (i.e. Isaiah and Jeremiah). Most of the time, a prophet came with a word from the Lord, it was a warning against sinful behavior and God’s upcoming judgment. In fact, Samuel had to tell the priest he, along with his sons, would be punished by God for their actions. I Sam.2:27-36;3 Read the story of Jehosaphat and Ahab, (II Chron.18). When Jehosaphat told Ahab to inquire of the prophet of the Lord, Ahab said, “I hate him...he never gives me a good report.” The truth: Ahab did not live a life pleasing unto the Lord. He ignored the prophet and was killed.

Don’t get me wrong, God is good and loving and long-suffering, yet, He will not be mocked. The truth can hurt sometimes, yet it also sets you free. While I believe that this earthquake was a result of God’s wrath. I also believe His grace is sufficient for the people of Haiti.

So, before you flip over the words of a fellow believer because you feel they are insensitive or just plain wrong, look at the situation from a Biblical standpoint. That’s what Pat did.
