Abigail

Her heart must have been fast as she rode on her donkey to meet king David. Abigail had just heard the news that her foolish husband, Nabal, had turned away David’s men who had been good to Nabal’s property. Abigail knew she had to pacify David’s anger or he would kill her husband and all in the house.

As she rode down the mountain, her thoughts went back to her young days where she, like every young girl, had hoped to marry the prince of her dreams. Someone who would love her God as dearly as she did. All that come tumbling down when she married Nabal, a drunkard and foolish man. Oh how her heart ached to be with a man who was passionate about the God she served. She had always wanted to serve God with her husband. No one saw her tears or the cry of her heart except her God.

But she was faithful to the marriage vow she had made and did her duties as a wife faithfully.

Oh, but her husband would just not listen to her and turn from his evil ways ... she prayed that God would change him ... and give her a second chance.

She came back to the present when she saw King David coming with his men to kill Nabal. She had heard of king David..he was a man after God’s own heart. He had even killed the giant Goliath for God and his people. “Wouldn’t it be nice to marry such a man?” she thought as she walked toward him. Surprised at her own thoughts, she knelt at his feet and pleaded the case for her husband. David realized the mistake he was about to do and decided to return. Abigail rose to her feet, and with conviction in her heart said, “Remember your handmaid, earnestly.” She went back home to find her husband having a feast and drunk. Disgusted, she went to bed.

All night, she could not stop thinking of King David and felt guilt that sh , being a married woman, was thinking of another man.In the morning, she walked to her husband, who was sober now, and told of what happened the previous night. He fell down paralyzed. Ten days later, the Lord smote him and he died.

Abigail, confused by her own reaction to the death of her husband, poured out her heart to God. “I only want to serve you, Lord,” she cried. A few days later, her maids came in and told her that David’s men had come to take her to be his wife. Joy leaped within her … she made haste and ran toward her dreams and became his wife.

God gave Abigail a second chance. He earnestly remembered her. Are you in the same situation where you need a second chance desperately. Me too! Remember us earnestly, oh Lord, my God!
