How are you? I was privileged to see you go to heaven on eagle’s wings. The strange thing about it is that I’m the only one who saw the eagle. Dad had just dropped the urn with your ashes into the water and we were all standing around watching it bopping around. The eagle was beautiful. It just flew up out of the water, with water dripping from its magnificent wings. Then it flew up over us and away. Towards the heavens. How could anyone else have missed it?
My friend Tammy is part Cherokee. She knows a lot. And she explained why I was the only one who saw the eagle. I was chosen to see it. She said it was my gift from you; you gave me your totem. Thank you, Mom. What was it like to go to heaven on eagles wings? Leave it to you, Mom. You lived your life so gracefully, and you left this world just as gracefully.
So, I wonder about heaven a lot. I hear that it has pretty much the same landscape as earth, but in its most natural, unspoiled beauty. Have you been to the Hall of Music yet? Or the Grand Canyon? I just know that you’re in a better place. And you’re with people you loved all your life, including our pets; most important Oliver, your beloved sheepdog. Everyone around you is smiling and laughing. Do you do any reminiscing?
But, I really miss you, Mom. We all do. And I know that Dad does, too. After sixty-two years of marriage, how could he not miss you? We try to offer him as much support as we can. Did you have a good time at your wake? I’ll never stop thinking about you. But it’s time for me to continue forward with my life. Until we meet again, your loving daughter, Carolynn
