Peace

During the Christmas season, the words “Peace on Earth” can be found imprinted on Christmas cards and heard in radio ads, television commercials, and in songs and jingles. On the night that Christ was born, angels appeared to shepherds near the city of Bethlehem and proclaimed, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill to men,” (Luke 2:13-14).

As followers of Christ, it is His and Our Heavenly Father’s will that peace governs our lives. Jesus said in His Sermon on the Mount, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9). In his letter to the Christians in Roman, the apostle Paul wrote: “Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone,” (Romans 12:18).

Christmas is my favorite holiday. I “ooh” and “ahh” at towering, bejeweled Christmas trees and decked out city streets, homes, and shopping malls. In addition to beholding the artistic beauty of the season, listening to Christmas carols and watching holiday movies and programs are other pastimes of mine. And it is, especially so, during this time of the year that I reflect on God’s gift to the world, His son Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior—The Prince of Peace. “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace,” (Isaiah 9:6). As we prepare our hearts and homes for Christmas, let each of us endeavor to share more peace this season.

Be blessed, and may you receive more of God’s kindness, peace, and love. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
