2009, A Year of Change

Can’t you feel it?

Ever since the clock struck midnight, I have felt a renewed sense of hope.

Let’s shed our layers of fear and face the world with love. Let’s discover who we really are. Marianne Williamson says, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

So what really do we have to lose? Our economy is failing, our mother earth is wounded, and we are at war. Again, it is time we discover who we really are. Many of us don’t want to face certain truths about ourselves, but without looking at these upsets head on there can be no healing. Healing can be uncomfortable, but when you get to the other side you realize that it was well worth it. You begin to see yourself for who you really are and you start to think, “I’m an awesome person and I can do anything.” You become a better person.

Happy New Year, everyone and bless all of you.

thank you for this story. I always need to be reminded. Last night--Christmas night I was at a party and seated across the table from a man at dinner who I thought would be dull to talk to. But it turned out that he was fascinating because he looked right at me within fifteen minutes of our meeting and said "you do not need to study. You know all you need to know. You simply need to listen to yourself, respect what you tell yourself." I said, "thank you. that is a huge compliment." He went on to say that he himself needed to read and study a lot. This confirmation of my interior knowledge, strength and wisdom was just what I needed. I don't think I could have gotten a better gift. Actually it is what I prayed for -- a confirmation of my path. I also asked for a teacher. Maybe this man will be one of those. But thank you for reminding me of what Ms Williamson says. C. S. Lewis said a similar thing.
It feels good to write.
