At some point or another, we are drilled with the question, “What inspires you?” The “what” can often jab at your ribs as you recall previous passions, hobbies, or sports; the “what” echoes through your mind as if you’re supposed to have a specific and constant “thing” as the sole source for your inspiration. Well instead of the “what” perhaps we should consider the “who.” Who inspires you? Who effortlessly lights up your day? Who do you admire and perhaps aspire to be? It may be a loved one, friend, teacher, or maybe even a Starbucks barista. Maybe you have yet to meet them. Either way, whoever happens to inspire you, hold onto that person. Keep them in your world, your life, and in your vision. Don’t be afraid to learn from them and to perhaps even tell them “you inspire me” for it is not everyday that we meet someone who truly inspires us; who fills us with an animating, quickening, or exalting influence.
If you have someone in your life for inspiration he or she will, without fail, inspire the “what”... the paper for your pen, the paint for your canvas, the motivation for your job. If you keep that person close, your passions—the “what”—will thrive and become immensely clear.
