With several weeks of January behind you now, 2010 is off and running as a new decade, a new year, and a new time of possibility. You can find opportunities in every moment of the day for you to grow, expand, learn, and enjoy the best things in life. These opportunities can range from finding courage in yourself you previously hadn’t imagined possible as you face challenges, or simply enjoying the company of the moment in a treasured friend or pet. The moments for joy are everywhere if you look around.
Open your eyes to the wonder in every day.
There are pleasures in life that we can all take for granted when we’re feeling blue. Changing your perspective to see the light in the dark can be a tough mental exercise, but don’t the greatest rewards and payoffs come from the biggest efforts? Retraining your mind isn’t easy; it takes dedication, determination and more than anything else, persistence! Persistence truly is the one and only quality truly necessary to succeed in your new mindset. It takes time, so stick with it.
Think of it like this; how many times have you awoken suddenly in the night to find yourself disoriented? It’s the same bed, the same room, and the same situation you’ve been in for months, or even years—yet the suddenness of your awakening and the confusion of the dark may have made you feel frightened or unsure. Your mental awakening is much the same. It’s your same life, your same day to day experience (nothing dramatic will happen at first), and yet your awakening to the new mindset is going to seem disorienting and confusing at first. It seems so dark in the night that it’s easy to feel frightened. But your new attitude, like your dark-night awakening, will only take a matter of time to adjust to before your eyes will begin to see. Like your physical nocturnal experience, your waking mindset will begin to see objects; blurry at first, then outlines; then as your eyes absorb and accept the light that is always there (even in the blackest darkness), this new world, previously unseen under the cloak of night, will be visible. You’ll get your bearings, you’ll become comfortable in the new setting, and just like the physical experience of night, an even more brilliant dawn of pure light and total absence of darkness will certainly be on the horizon.
Train your eyes to see the light, train your mind to focus on the joy, fun, and opportunity of each day and you will surely, certainly find the beauty you are seeking in every moment.
