There is so much power in what you say—whether in your own life, situations, and circumstances, or even to people around you and those connected to you one way or another. Words have grave impact because they are seeds, whether you’re joking in a light mood, or serious about them. I believe that’s why scripture says life and death are in the power of the tongue, and that you will eat the fruit of your lips. However, the power of your words doesn’t exist in isolation; rather it has a great deal to do with what you hear.
Of all the human sensory organs, the ear occupies a very significant and powerful place. The ears are subtle gateways into your mind; therefore they serve as a gateway into your heart, a powerful communication channel of immense capability and capacity. What you constantly hear will influence your mindset, beliefs, traditions and thought patterns. It will dictate your confession or power of your words and, ultimately, chart the direction of your present and future. What you hear is life or death. No wonder scripture says, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God.”
Nothing in the scripture is misfit or ordinary; all scriptures have great impact and are life-giving. This means what you hear is the source of your faith, and your faith is the power for your daily victories, because without faith, it is impossible to please God. That simply means that without God’s kind of faith you will be incapable of seeing things, especially your situations and circumstances, from his point of view. That’s really an unpleasant development; differing from God on issues concerning you that have previously been settled. The life-determining question is: what is the source of your faith? Or in other words, what do you constantly hear? Is it what can give the faith that’ll please God and provoke a miracle or divine intervention? Or is it that which does nothing but bring doubt, fear, and failure?
Faith is your conviction and it can either be positive (faith) or negative (fear); but both are a product of what you keep hearing. If you give ear to your circumstances alone it will definitely breed a negative faith or fear in you, thereby preventing any divine manifestation on your behalf because you don’t have positive faith, which moves God to act out of the ordinary in ordinary life situations.
So you do have a choice: Whether to nurture faith and harvest miracles, or to nurture fear and harvest anxiety. Remember, there is no magic anywhere. God operates on eternal time-tested principles that have been tested and tried over, and over, and declared true and real. Your preferred or desired harvest should dictate what you labor on or sow as seed with your words.
Someone once said, read the bible to know God’s ways and instruction to man, but read (or listen or watch) the news to know men and what we are doing contrary to God’s way and instructions. There’s little or no hope of understanding God, learning his ways, or receiving faith, hope, and encouragement from the daily news on most channels on the airwaves. Most times, if you’re not aware of God’s promises for you in any particular area or situation, the news you hear or read will generate much concern, apprehension, anxiety, and ultimately crippling fear in you. The best news article is just at best the fact, but what God can and will do for you is beyond fact, it’s the truth—the time-tested truth.
You must make up your mind about what you want in your heart. This will determine what you believe, which will generate faith (or fear) in your heart and, in turn, either give you a harvest of miracles or anxiety. You cannot continue to hear and depend on human news alone for your inspiration, direction, and instruction and expect faith that will attract a divine intervention in your situation to miraculously grow in your heart. It is impossible.
