In response to the writing prompt centering on the messiest summer experience I remember, I wish to retell a family adventure we all had at a retro ice cream outside parlor setting. The Creamy Stand was located in a lovely rural area near a mountain stream in the Northeast. I was in my early teens and my sister was in elementary school. My family and I were taking a day trip in the country near our residence. It was a hot summer day in the nineties. We had all stopped for our favorite vanilla cone with multicolored sprinkles. The cone was a two scooper. The exciting and simultaneously challenging situation was to begin to lick the ice cream as quickly from the cone as possible. All of a sudden my mom was saying , “You’re losing it (meaning the ice cream).” It was true. The top scoop, now lopsided, was about to fall off the cone. I quickly responded to my mom, “So are you. Look at your cone.” The ice cream from her cone was dripping from the bottom. At the same moment, my sister and my dad were laughing at us, while licking furiously, as their cones were self-destructing and becoming a creamy mess at their feet. What a fun and messy summer experience.
