So you think Disney Cruises are for kids only? Think again!
Disney Cruises are perfect girlfriend getaways, as I learned on my recent cruise (without kids). I spent three fabulous days on Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wonder. I thought I would miss my kids badly during this trip, especially when seeing all the happy families together, but no—I was able to take a well deserved break from mommy duties and have some fun with girlfriends on a cruise that was full of luxurious surprises. My top reasons why Disney Cruise is the perfect girlfriend getaway: the luxurious spa, relaxing beach, shopping and delicious gourmet food. The excursions list is so long that you will find something fun and exciting, or memorable and relaxing, from the list. The Disney Wonder stops at Nassau and at Disney’s own private island Castaway Cay. And there are so many activities for adults only, that I never felt like we were the adults stuck on kids’ cruise—there were several other kid-free groups on board!
Spa Day on Board
The Vista Spa & Salon on Disney Wonder is a full service, luxurious spa with variety of facial and body treatments, hair & nail salon, and several different types of steam rooms and a sauna. The adults only pool is on a deck right outside of the spa, and the adults only gym is right next to it too, so you can easily first work out and then get relaxing treatments or enjoy the spa.
Castaway Cay: Day on the Beach
Castaway Cay is Disney’s own private island, and the Disney Wonder docks right on the beach and you can walk to sandy beaches and several different activities like snorkeling, riding a bike around the island, sail around the island with your rental boat or pretty much anything you can imagine you can do on your beach vacation. My girlfriends and I chose the stingray feeding, which was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone who likes animals. The stingrays don’t have teeth, so they just kind of suck the food of your hand. It was really cool how they had taught the stingrays to get their food from a Mickey shaped plate and we just put our hands firmly down on the plate and held the food between the fingers and the stingrays just came and sucked the food away. The nice thing about the Castaway Cay for adults is that they have a totally separate beach section only for adults, and you can have enjoy your umbrella drinks with your girlfriends in peace.
Food
The food on board is amazing. Basically you can not go wrong with any of the restaurant choices on board Disney Wonder. On three night cruises you will have an opportunity to eat on three different restaurants, but on the last night we dined at the Palo, who is the most exquisite of the restaurants on board, and you have to pay an extra fee and do a separate reservation for. One of the excellent examples of the superior Disney customer service was that guests eat in a different restaurant every night to get a different dining experience - but the servers are the same every night. So your waitress will learn to know you and your individual likes and dislikes and it gives a very nice touch for the whole Disney cruise experience. You can also enjoy wine tasting, tour the Disney kitchen behind the scenes and pretty much you’ll be in the culinary heaven while on board. Just skip the hot dogs on the pool side for lunch and treat yourself the best of the best dining experience, it is worth every penny.
