This is easy to confirm at any hotel that provides glass drinking glasses: Check the maids carts when they are cleaning rooms. The absence of clean glassware on the carts; then it's a management decision and directive to their maids to clean the glasses in the room. After a bout of "food poisoning" on my last trip to Australia / New Zealand, I can confirm at least one of the hotels that lacked clean glasses on the maids' carts. Do I hear class action? Sounds like a blog to ID the chains that use these practices. The employees could join in anonymously and as whistle blowers they get to split the settlements.

I'll be sure to Not eat or drink off of hotel room glasses or anything else they supply that Should be sanitary... I don't do sheets anyway, just blankets, so that's tolerable for me.

This is sad that we pay all of this money for hotel rooms and they are nasty. I worked at a well known hotel casino in Atlantic City NJ. And we never had clean glasses or rags to dust it was terrible. We were told to rinse them with bleach and hot water and that goes for the coffe pot too. OH and by the way the clean linen that goes on your bed and the towels you use. Well they were thrown on the floor in the housekeeping department. Just laying there on a cement floor where they drag the garbage. SO dont just think that your glasses are nasty so are your sheets and face and body towles at this WELL known hotel casino. Needless to say I quit after a week. Could not work under those conditions

Oh god, this is horrifying, but not news to me... I worked at a Sheraton Hotel in catering for a few months and was part of a n incident I'll never forget... We had a giant party going on in the main event room and there was coffee being served. It was my job to set out the coffee cups for others to fill up and serve to the guests. For the most part, I just carried the trays without paying attention; however, I noticed a few cups had noticeable brown stains in them, as if they hadn't been properly washed. I picked at them and they were flaky, so I pointed this out to my manager and asked if we should send them back to the dishwashers. Her answer? "Oh, don't worry about it. It's dark in the room, they won't notice." ...I've never stayed at that hotel and most certainly don't plan on doing so. It was a disgusting experience.
