With the growth of international travellers AND owners, hotels (especially those with around a hundred rooms or less) are becoming closer to no-tell motels in quality and sanitation. Having worked in the pest control industry as a sales person, I can personally attest to the hesitancy of some hotel owners to properly treat for pests in general and particularly bedbugs. I will NEVER sleep in a hotel bed without checking for bedbugs...and, if I find them, I will ask to see their pest control log. If they don't have one that meets my satisfaction, I will leave for a hotel that cares.
I work as a hotel housekeeper and although I do work there I would never stay there. Admittetdly the sheets are changed after every guests and extended stayovers are changed every monday and thursday, the blankets AND bedspreads and matress covers which dont even cover the entire matress are only changed if there is a visible stain. We are not given the cleaning products neeeded to control the growth of mold so it runs rampant and as for creepy crawlies?????? I dont ever remeber there being an exterminater at the hotel and I have been there for a year. The glued on bathmats are only sprayed and wiped with a toilet cleaner which I do NOT dilute with water as I am supposed to do. But then again we are only allowed a certain amount of minutes per room to clean, you can only do so much especially when you have an owner that is more concerned about his wifes personal shopping sprees then buying what he needs for the hotel.
My husband and I went to the Hampton Inn in Ocean City MD for our 10th wedding Anniversary. We got a really nice suite with a jaccuzi tub. The tub had black hairs all through it. I cleaned it myself with clorox that I bought there trying to make the best of it for our anniversary. We went into the kitchenette and it smelled like cooked eggs, opened the dishwasher and it was full of dirty dishes. We called the manager, he came up and ran the dishwasher, didn't even add his own dishsoap ???? That's it. Unbelievable! We left.
I am staying in a hotel right now in Mississippii. Since I've been here, I have not seen them change the bedspread or blankets.
