Are You Friends With Your Hair?

Hey—we get it. Your relationship with your hair is complicated. Whether it’s curly, straight, limp, or lush, we all seem to want what we can’t have. Sure you tolerate it, accept it, maybe even appreciate it sometimes, but are you really friends with your hair? Have you figured out what makes it tick, and how to make it work for you? (If you have, please share how you did it!)

Tell us about the complex, contentious, or contented relationship you have with your hair by commenting below by October 20, 2011 5 p.m. PST, and you could win a set of Dove’s new Nourishing Oil Care products—a shampoo, conditioner, daily treatment conditioner, leave-in smoothing cream, and anti-frizz serum that contain weightless nutri-oils to nourish, replenish, and smooth frizz.

I’ve had the same hair style since I was in kindergarten—pin straight, long blonde hair (plus/minus a few tragic bang incidents). My friends always say they are jealous because my hair naturally dries straight, but I would give anything for it to have a little wave or hold a curl! I guess you always want what you can’t have, right?

My hair is an extension of who I am, literally all 20+ inches of it. It embodies my moods, gets tangled up in my boyfriend and shines bright and blonde even when I'm feeling down and blue. Every morning I have a conversation with my hair, wake up and look in the mirror and ask what shall we do today? Are we feeling wavy and bohemian or sophisticated and pulled back or au natural and air dried. I am a natural blonde and I am in love with my hair.

I've been best friends with my hair for as long as I can remember. In fact, when I was 8 I chopped it to fit into my swim cap for the summer. The following school year my teacher gave me the "Longest Hair Growing" award because every day I came to class and asked it it looked longer ;) I have VERY thick dirty blonde hair... that when hit with a humid day, looks like a wavy lion mane! On a typically sunny afternoon, you will find me in braids, when running it's slicked back under a hat... but on a night on the town, I pull out the hair straightener and curling iron! Right now I'd debating to go Brown. Yes, it JUST hair... but after 33 years as a blonde, being anything but is a bit scary... but I think I'm ready to see what it's like to be a brunette :)

My hair is stick straight and refuses to hold a curl. This makes it easy for day to day hair styling, but sometimes a girl needs some volume!

Super straight, baby-fine...... never have liked it! Used to be able to have super short "sassy" cuts if they used a razor and layered it just right........everyone told me it brought out my eyes and cheekbones. Now I'm just too old I guess. Can't perm it because I am taking so much calcium and Vitamin D that it makes my hair "soft". HATE IT!! Especially hate it when it parts in the back....... old lady hair! So, no -- my hair and I are NOT friends at all !

It's not curly. It's not straight. It's in between but not exactly. Sometimes i buy goop to make it curly. Other times i buy stuff to make it straight. I've been told it's like Meg Ryan's. And it is - sort of. Except that her's looks good. With the right product, on a day that I haven't washed it, it works. And when it doesn't, I turn to my hat collection.

My hair is my biggest frenemy. Just when I think we're getting along, it always freaks out and goes rogue. Par for the course when you have curls, I guess.

For the most part, I like my hair and I've learned how to work with it. My latest problem: The color is changing as I age and now the fiery locks of my youth are changing to brown. It's like an identity crisis!
