How to Get Volume at Your Crown - That Lasts!

If you’re like me when it comes to hair, you will take all the volume you can get. My favorite look is the naturally wavy, messy texture a la Brigitte Bardot, who is my hair idol. I have a good amount of hair, but it's extremely fine and falls flat easily, so my hair and I have to fake our way to recreating that full, sexy Brigitte look.

The three best ways to get more volume are to get the right cut for your hair texture, to use good volumizing products, and to have the right styling routine. Today I want to focus on how to style your hair by back combing to create the most volume, because this is something you can do to change your hair today!

Some of you have maybe been backcombing since you were first able to get your hands on a teasing comb, but some of you have maybe never even considered it. I swear by it. It is the quickest way to get your hair looking full, it actually holds, and all you need is a teasing comb (and hair)! If you don't have a teasing comb, a rat tail comb or a bristle brush will work just fine.

When backcombing the crown, you really only need to do two or three sections of hair. I usually grab the first section just where my head starts to slope towards my face. Take a section a few inches wide and about one inch deep and start backcombing! Repeat with a few sections behind the first, then smooth the top out so there are no holes. Easiest thing ever!

Voila! Huge, glorious hair!
