“Tattoos”- A Symbol for Judgment

TATTOO’S..............A stigma within our society........What opinion is quite often formulated when an individual notices another with a tattoo? They must be a BIKER....A Pagan? .....Well if not a Pagan then they MUST at least belong to some gang! Or maybe that person was in the Armed Forces? What about a religious fanatic or a satanic worshipper? Or better yet...........DEFINITELY a rebellious member of society? At one time (and still sometimes today), these were the common opinions towards those individuals possessing various forms of BODY ART!......... Today and now many people would be surprised at who had tattoos and who did not! Many professionals..........In the Legal Field (lawyers, police officers).............In the Medical field (nurses, doctors, dietitians).........Highly educated, law abiding people carry these “expressions of themselves” within their skin! We are not your local criminal or “skum bag” found loitering on the corner of your street............Many of us carry college degrees, and quite often we are the ones saving and protecting your lives with the jobs that we have.

The world of TATTOO’S has changed drastically within the past 50+ years ........Today they are colorful... (where at one time they were only done with black ink)...........They are pretty....(not just skulls and cross-bones!).........And often they carry a significant meaning.............Frequently people get a tattoo in memory of a lost loved one, or of a life changing event.

TATTOO’s don’t change the person that we are inside, or the beliefs that we have.............Instead they “express” or “accent” our individual beauty.  Our bodies provide the canvas, and the ink is the artist’s paintbrush.....

Well put Groundhogrd! Once someone finds out that I have a tatoo, if they would just stop and ask me more about it they might be pleasantly surprised as to the reasoning behind it and find a little more about me as a person; as apposed to judging me from the fact that I have one and what ever misconsceptions they hold.

Of course people make assumptions. Who cares? Not everyone thinks negatively about people with tattoo's. I have three and I might add that I am a therapist and not one person would look at me and believe I am a Pagan, although I do look very Lilly Pulitzer.
