The average American holds several jobs over the course of his or her lifetime, which means we all have plenty of chances to encounter brutal bosses, complaining customers, and stressful schedules. While not many people have the experience of, say, being cursed out and hit on the head with a suitcase (like JetBlue flight attendant Steven Slater did on August 9, before he exited the plane in a rage via the emergency slide), we’ve all had our share of workplace nightmares that make us want to scream at the top of our lungs, “Take this job and shove it!” Whether it’s been from your client or from your cubemate, what’s the worst on-the-job treatment you’ve ever encountered?
What’s the Worst You’ve Ever Been Treated on the Job?

I worked for this medical supply company, my first job. At first it was great, the people I worked with, all fantastic. Then there was a change at the top, and they fired some key people, leaving just me and a contract specialst. Then to our dismay, the VP brought in her own son to manage the branch. This guy was an ugly, fat slob, know it all, who thought he was a gift to women. He was 15 years my junior. We would get into many arguements. He had a bad temper, and was always unfair in his treatment of everyone. When I complained, and mind you I had to complain to the VP(His mother) She merely couldn't understand what the big deal was that they were related. Suffice to say my complaints went no where. And then just short a year later, I was called in and asked to take a cut in pay. I screwed them good, and quit, and also sued the company for unlawful practices. The VP was demoted to a mere departmental head, and the son was fired. Revenge is sweet!

When I was 17 I worked my first job as a retail associate in a large, moderately upscale department store. I hustled my butt off, floating to cover shifts in every department of the store and coming in extra shifts anytime they called me, even if that meant sacrificing my schoolwork. I was friendly, helpful, never called off, always showed up on time, dealt with customer that treated me terribly, and complied with their ridiculous dress code (skirts, heels, hose, a jacket---try standing in hose and heels for 10 hours straight). All this for a measly $6.25 an hour---$1.10 more than minimum wage was in 2001). The real capper was a when I had my performance review. This store used "mystery shoppers" to rate your service. One of the mystery shops was MADE UP, bashing me. It listed me in a department that I did not even work in on that day. Because of this, they put me on probation---no raise. I decided that I didn't need it anymore and quit.

I was 7months preg. and had a boss who put me on probabtion because she was mad at her staff for saying things about her. After the so called 2 weeks probabtion she told me if was all fake. So she picked me since I was an easy target. GRRR.
In my twenties, I was working full time at this investment banking firm while I was attending college and getting my B.A. degree. One of my bosses with jewish, so he didn't celebrate Christmas. He refused to let me go home early on Christmas Eve and forced me to work Christmas Day and New Year's Eve (he was a miserable single person - for good reason). Of course, I never received a raise, holiday bonus, nothing. He also would intentionally make me work late when he knew I had evening classes I had to be at and then when I would tell him I couldn't stay any longer, as I was already late for class, he'd scream at me at the top of his lungs. He told me things like "you've gone downhill since the minute you walked in, etc..." Horribly abusive. I always kept my composure. Every day I would ride the elevator up to the office suites in total misery just knowing what awaited me. Looking back now, I cannot BELIEVE I tolerate that....I was just trying to get through college and get out of there!

My boss told me that because my parents were blue collar, I didn't deserve my white collar job--I'm a college graduate. This same day, our CEO was quoted in the paper that he loved hiring people that didn't have busniess degrees and came from varied backgrounds. I won't even get into the other abusive behaviours of the fortune 500 company.

Unfortunately I have had quite a few bosses that were screamers. The worst was a boss who nearly got into a fist fight with an employee in the parking lot. One day we had to call the police when he and his wife had a huge fight in the same parking lot and they ended up in a literal tug of war with one of their toddlers. It was horrible for everyone. It would be wonderful to work at a job that didn't have daily drama.
At the very first "real" job I ever had, the boss was a big, blooming JERK. My bosom is "amply endowed" and at least 5 or 6 times a week when I first started, he would tell me to try to make my elbows touch behind my back. During the SECOND week of this I told him to shove it and he threatened to fire me. I told him not to bother and grabbed up all my things and took off......but I didn't quit.....I went upstairs and reported HIM to the owner of the company. I was IMMEDIATELY transferred and the craxy, old JERK was fired!
