What’s Your Favorite Smartphone App?

With the dizzying array of apps available for our smartphones, it’s a wonder anyone gets anything done anymore. In some ways, they make life infinitely easier: the Google Maps app shows us how to get where we need to go, and the Yelp app recommends what to eat when we get there. Other times, they’re just fun distractions that save us from infinite boredom: dueling with friends using the Lightsaber app, for instance, or the countless game apps that are just a download away. So which ones make your world go ’round? Do you have an all-time favorite app, or do you have different choices for different occasions?

oh, there are many! But the game app I like most is Demolition Dash. It's a runner game, in which the player
controlling Zilla, a cute little monster, has to wreak as much havoc as possible... It's really fun playing it on my iphone!

Pandora. The flashlight thingy - good if you're in a dark restaurant and blind like me. And this new one that i'm trying to get into - call EverNote - it archives everything - pics, notes and voice recordings - then makes them all available with a simple search. think poster or business card.

My favorite apps on my current phone are the Calvin and Hobbes comics and Google Sky Maps.

Now that I have a phone that both rings and functions when not plugged in (two qualities my last cell phone didn't have), I'm feeling pretty on top of things. Once upon a time, I had a BlackBerry. A strong wave pulled my bag into the ocean, however, and my BlackBerry died. I don't actually miss it! I was becoming obsessed with checking for the red blinking light that indicated I had a message. I like being slightly unavailable, however unpractical some might think that is. I actually daydream about getting a land line and a phone with a rotary dial.
I agree with Yelp and other restaurant finding apps. I find this to be especially useful when traveling.
I have the most pathetic, outdated phone known to man. I don't have a single app on it. It's not even set up for voicemail. All this is to say, I've been trying to get to the T-Mobile store for weeks to get myself a smartphone so I actually contribute to this Chit Chat, and I think tonight's the night!

I tend toward the Amish end of the tech-saavy spectrum, which is to say, not saavy at all. However, I have heard great things about the NPR app, which allows access to any member station across the country, and any program on demand. That might be enough to lure me into the 21st century!

My iPhone is pretty much attached to my body, so I'm constantly on the lookout for new fun apps. Since I can't pick just one as my favorite here are a few of apps I can't live without: Twitter (previously by Tweetie), Facebook, Yelp, Foursquare, iSpy, Words with Friends, Doodle Jump, Pandora, Digg, Angry Birds, and Flickr.
I don't have a smartphone, but I love using my boyfriend's iPhone because he has apps like Shazam and Yelp, both of which have come in handy more times than once.

I have lots of apps that are useful in some way, but my favorite is iShoes. It aggregates shoes on sale around the web. So if I'm stuck without a book, I just flip through shoes and pretend I have the money to buy them. This is why the iPhone was invented.
