Do you have any hidden gifts or special talents that once meant the world to you when you were younger? Perhaps you played the guitar better than the guys in Aerosmith, or you can shoot hoops better than Michael Jordan himself, or you can paint better than Michaelangelo ever could, but for some reason your dreams weren’t realized and as the years went by, so did your dreams. But your passion for whatever it was never waned. It’s funny how some people say that if they couldn’t do what they loved or felt in their hearts after they clocked out from work that they would go crazy!
Not literally crazy, but the feeling of not doing what the creator put you on this earth to do would be pure torture for a lot of people. Take for instance certain things that some people struggle to do, while some people can do them easily and effortlessly. Some people may have had years of study and training while for some others, some gifts and talents just came naturally to them. Some people develop faster while it may take a little longer for others, but it doesn’t matter; a gift is a gift no matter what. Gifts are God-given; they are truly divine from the creator above, and those who discover these gifts and apply them are then doubly blessed.
Children are so full of excitement about who or what they want to be when they grow up. I too had dreams and visions about my future. I wanted to become a secretary because I liked to type when I was little, but that changed to becoming a female karate samuri, to a female body builder, to a … well, you get the picture. But it’s also true that our parents have an influence as well, because my mother had dreams of becoming a famous singer, so she tried to make me and my other sisters the SISTER’S SLEDGE girl group trio (which I was so not interested in doing but had no choice). She used to make us sing in acapella all the time when I was about five or six years old with my other sisters on and off for a long time. She stopped because she didn’t think we wanted to do it.
Well it just so happened that years later something just clicked in me and all of a sudden I wanted to sing. I literally fell in love with music. I went to sleep and woke up with it on my brain just like love, and I couldn’t understand what was happening. The desire for this became so strong that I couldn’t think about anything else, nor did I want to do anything else. (My employers figured this out with my lack of attention so they gave me the booty boot!) It seemed like nothing else mattered but my desire to sing, so sing I did.
I started performing for local talent shows, community events, school plays, high school chorus, then I started doing paid gigs for very little money. But it wasn’t the money; it was just to do what I knew felt good to me, then it got to the point that I had outgrown my town and felt it was time to follow my dreams and move away to the big city! I did it, but life was happening also and time was running out (years had passed by and hope was fading), but somehow I just knew that God would still make a way for my voice to not only be heard but also to be used as an instrument to change the world in some way … but guess what?
I still don’t wanna be famous.
