The Path Toward Self-Empowerment

As member of International Marketing Group, it was an honor to hear Mr. Rex Ma. A. Mendoza last night, a registered financial planner, Ayala Land’s senior vice president of corporate sales and marketing, the chairman and president of Rampver Strategic Advisors Inc., and also one of my financial mentors, he was our main speaker. Quarterly, he presents a different topic to all IMG members to boost our personal growth awareness and to update us on the market status held at Kings Court, Makati City.

His first slide showed the market status stating that we are tracking rightly ahead with a healthy credit environment, and investments over GDP were low. The opening of 2011 has had jittery start brought about by a weak U.S. recovery, problematic European economies, inflation fears in emerging market, money streaming back to the United States on de-risking strategies, and of course, the Middle East situation involving Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, and Iran.

Perspective dwells on how we manage our own portfolios, keeping our focus, is it the goal or the earnings? And so here are the key points of the night’s path toward self-empowerment.

1. You can have higher potential, but if you don’t think it, it will not happen. Your mind controls yourself and also limits yourself. You are your own standards. You can choose to be a higher self.

2. Train yourself as if (the surroundings) that is the competition. Each and every rehearsal, you have to be your higher self. Focus on your strength. Make sure your strength solve your weaknesses. You have to be confident. You have to be knowledgeable. But there are individuals who can be confident without knowledge. Take, for example, your valedictorian from high school, he or she is so knowledgeable, but can he or she be confident the way you are? Can he or she be upfront and speak something? In short, take a practice. And do not let other things back-stop you.

3. Manage your emotion. Be optimistic. Be excited. Be energized. Feel these things. But how about being angry? To be angry is never a reason. Everything that happens in your life, you are reacting to it because God gives you challenges. In your moment of anger, ask God what are the good things that he wanted to reveal in your situation?

4. Be appreciative. Write the top twenty things that you’ve been grateful in life. Maybe it’s your family, your career, your relationship, your achievements, your travels, your talents and treasures. Be thankful for people, for love and for gratefulness.

5. What do you do after dinner and before you sleep? Make a list. It determines the quality of time you spend on yourself and surely, Facebooking, Farmville games, and watching TV are not counted to that. Focus on quality. Learn something on that day. Learn something every single day. Relax on the last forty-five minutes before you go to sleep.

6. Create balance. Honor twenty minutes of learning, twenty minutes of exercise, twenty minutes of prayer each day. My daily prayer in the morning is for thirty minutes right after I wake up. And a walking exercise of twenty minutes exceeds me since I have a long way path before I reach the office and going home. And my personal learning through books, audiobooks, and the Wealth Academy Series has a different impact.

7. Be present to the present. What is your biggest achievement? Think before you write. If you think this achievement, you’ll have power. As you grow along, you’re gonna change your achievements. Think of yourself as a winner and you’ll have confidence. Put in writing what you have done. Get a victory logbook. Make that list longer. Manage your emotions through memory management.

8. Live, love, and work with passion. The power is in you. When people say no, say next. Because some people want, some people won’t, so what? (Please remember that IMG is a financial industry). Mostly people say no because they’re hurting. So don’t bring home that rejection or problems they have, that’s their problem.
