A notable change is felt in the air
Sizzling heat and heavy moisture
Now replaced with a delicate crispness
And a welcoming dryness
Far and wide as my eyes can see
The changes are apparent
The leaves have begun to change
As the world is alive in vibrant reds, oranges, and gold
The forest creatures gorge themselves
In preparation of the lean days of winter
While others stockpile and hide their treasures
Hoping to stave off hunger
The wind is gentle now
As it speaks of a time that grows near
Whispering a message of preparedness
Hoping that all will hear
Golden wheat sways gently in the fields
As the sun radiantly illuminates
Shades of gold, strikingly beautiful
Against a sky of a perfect blue
The movement of water in the brooks and streams
Seem to have a purpose now
As they flow swifter to reach their journey’s end
Before ice begins to form, restricting its flow
Soon all will fall into a deep sleep
As winter approaches and covers the land
In a blanket of snow, so pure and white
Protecting all that lies beneath it
Gentle winds turn into biting assaults
Blue skies turn to grey
The sun climbs higher, ‘til out of sight
It’s warmth not felt for days
Boughs of trees weigh down heavily
As snow gathers with each new blanket of white
Snow drifts become intricate works of art
As the wind sculpts a wondrous sight
Icicles take on the appearance
Of faceted diamonds and crystals
As the light kisses and teases the frozen delights
Making each a variety of showy rainbows
Behold the sights as the seasons do change
And pay heed to the song of the wind
It’s message speaks of what is to come
And the promise of beauty in each
