I hadn’t written any poetry since my late wife and I got married on November 6, 1998. She passed away June 13, 2004. Since then, I have written ten poems, seven of which have been published through poetry.com which gives poets a chance to be seen by people around the world. Even though you don’t get any money for getting published, it’s a good feeling just to get accepted for publishing. One of the poems I wrote makes me understand after losing a loved one you must go on with your life. The poem is titled “MY LIFE WITH BETSY”.
I was in the hospital when we met, and to this day I’ll never regret.
Seeing her face made me smile, not knowing we’d walk the wedding aisle.
It started as a long distance affair, but at that time we didn’t care.
Months went by and our love grew, it wasn’t long before I knew.
I had to have her for my wife, so we could share together our life.
We had the usual ups and downs, which came with smiles and frowns.
All and all our love was true, just as the sky is blue.
Now she’s gone and I feel sad, but remember the GOOD TIMES we had!
When you feel down and out, think of the good times in your life. It helps you get through sad moments …
