I open my eyes one morning. The clouds are high in the sky and the air smells of fresh pine needles. The world is bigger than I would have expected it to be. Today is the first day of my new life. Yesterday was my high school graduation and today I am being pushed out into the world on my own. Instead of going to college right away, I decided to take a year or more off to explore the world. Last night I packed lightly, said goodbye to my parents and drove away. I ended up among tall tress and a sky of endless stars. No big city to block the wonders of this world. The natural world is calming and peaceful, which is so much different than the fast pace world I’m used to. All around me is silence, except for chirping birds and a trickling stream nearby. This place is nice and so much different. I can actually breathe and think in this place. And even better is that I have no idea where I am. I am in unknown territory, getting to figure everything out on my own. I am free of everything and everyone trying to suppress me. I make my own rules and adventure is on my menu.
