Now that the smoke from the red carpet has cleared and all the big shiny statues have been given out, it’s time for celebrity stylists to give out awards for best and worst hairstyles of the evening.
Hairdo’s
David Barron, owner of Barron’s London Salon in Atlanta, gives props to Alicia Keyes for her easy, sophisticated style. “Having the hair pulled back from her face allows the neckline of her dress to be accentuated.” A great hairstyle never competes with the dress! An added bonus, according to Barron: “The soft height at the top gives added drama but keeps the look feminine.”
Another big win for the evening, according to Alex De Rango, a Chicago stylist and artistic director for ColorDesignUSA, was Corinne Bailey Rae’s textured chic look with soft tousled sweeps. “She totally worked with hair and its texture to make hers a personalized look!”
Hairdon’ts
On the hairstyle misstep list was Katy Perry’s Cookie Monster impersonation. Blue could have looked stellar and added her own personality to the gorgeous princess dress she wore. Unfortunately, says Barron, “The blue is not believable. It looks washed out and faded, which makes her face look the same.” It could have worked to her advantage “with freshly colored hair and roots, and a more vibrant tone to the blue. This would have brought out her eyes and made her look a statement of her personality,” Barron suggests.
Also on the hair-don’t list was Rihana’s ’80s bedhead style. “Her hair looked like she didn’t care,” explained De Rango. He explained it wasn’t just the fried hair, but also bad roots combined with “an outfit that looks like she stole it from Heather Locklear’s closet.” Nuff said.

Of the costumed crew who dressed to shock rather than impress, Nicki Minaj’s bold sweep was an oversprayed failure while Lady Gaga’s hairstyle was the only subtle element of her wardrobe.
