Lula and Sailor (Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern) in "Wild at Heart."

Spike and Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer! I was so into their love-hate relationship back when the show was still on TV. I also love Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, but how could you not? For me Pride and Prejudice is the ultimate romantic novel.

Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher from What Happens in Vegas.........both really good looking. Also, Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke from 9 1/2 Weeks. Twisted couple but so much fun!!!

The couple who always make me laugh is Doug & Carrie Heffernan from "The King of Queens." Mary Fiore & Steve Edison from "The Wedding Planner" because they frustrate eachother to no end!!
I could not remember their name's right now for the life of me but the couple from Redeeming Love...
Edward and Bella from Twilight!
The Holiday is my FAVORITE movie and I love Graham and Amanda!

Alley and Noah on The Notebook
and
Edward and Bella from Twilight.
I have this obsession with a couple who are unconditionallyand irrevocably in love with eachother, even if it does not make sense to the rest of the world. Classic Romeo and Juliet....

Joel Barish and Clementine Kruckzynski... for ever. <3

I'm a sucker for Hester Prynne and Rev Dimmesdale!

In my opinion, Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy are the most romantic couple of fiction to date. She's such a strong loving woman and he has such a kind heart. She stands up for what she believes and won't take anything less while he, in spite of the hierarchical society that he lives in, would do anything for Elizabeth and her family to gain her affection.

I have to say that I love the Office. Jim Halpert is so cute and sweet. He and Pam are perfect! As far as movies (and books), I LOVE The Notebook! Allie and Noah are a great couple. So much passion at such a young and old age. This makes me want to watch it again...
Also, to add to the TV couple list- Dan and Roseanne Connor. I loved it when they were smart asses to each other! Hilarious!

"I had a farm in Africa..." Out Of Africa. Without a doubt, my favorite fictional couple is Karen von Blixen and Denys Finch Hatton (played by Merle Streep and Robert Redford in the film). Ok...technically they aren't fictional since Out of Africa is a memoir, but they were fictionalized by Streep and Redford. Love the tragedy and passion. Wow!

As I was thinking more about this topic, I thought about Jane and Michael from James Patterson's " Sunday at Tiffanys". How cool would it be if your imaginary firiend came to life and was ultimately your true love? Definitely a fairy tale for adults but so romantic and fun!

I love observing people as they realize they love someone and what they do about it. Both in real life and in the movies. Ms. Austen writes couples like no one else! Here's a few of my non-Austen fictional favorites:
1. Michael Vaughn and Sydney Bristow from Alias. I love their chemistry. 2. Ado Annie and Will Parker in Oklahoma. They seriously deserve each other and crack me up EVERY time. 3. Andie Anderson and Ben Barry in How to lose a guy in 10 days. Despite the fact that they are pretending for their careers...they find the real thing. 4. Mr. Davis and Ms. Claridge in Love Comes Softly. I can seriously watch this movie over and over and over. PS: I have to completely agree with Eva about Carl and Ellie from Up. I took my 9 year old niece to see it and ended up sobbing through a big chunk of the movie. It was soo moving.

Anne Shirley & Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables. (thanks for refreshing my memory Alexandria Crisp!) Read the books, have the movie (and the two sequels) and even though I know how it's going to turn out, their story keeps me enthralled everytime I watch! It's so real, full of mistakes and differing opinions, but a dogged determination to make it work. Absolutely all time favorite couple!

My choice has to be Beren and Luthien in The Silmarilion by J. R. R. Tolkien. A true power couple (Luthien changed herself into a giant bat creature and Beren into a werewolf to hunt down the truly awful creature that had stolen the Great Ring of Power), when they met, they embraced through entire seasons.
I think so much of these two strong personalities, my eldest son's middle name is Beren. If he had been a girl, her name would have been Luthien. Even the ex thought they were the best couple!

I'm all about Jamie and Claire from the Outlander series, but honorable mentions should go to Rick and Evie (portrayed by Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz) from the first two Mummy movies, and to Iris and Miles (Kate Winslet and Jack Black, respectively) from The Holiday. Both parties have to be somewhat quirky and have real, human flaws in order to grab a place in my heart!

Since the movie is coming out in...six days now (!!!) I'd have to mention a couple that ranks pretty high on my list...Ron and Hermione from Harry Potter. I don't know about anyone else, but I thought their constant squabbling and petty games that culminated in true love was ALMOST gag-worthy cute (in a good way!).
07.09.2009 Report
Bill Compton and Sookie Stackhouse!! I hold my breath everytime Bill (Stepehn Moyer) and Sookie (Anna Paquin) are on screen together and even more so in the books. My name doens't even sound like "Sookie" but i gt a chill everytime Bill says it. Delish!!!

Olivia and John Walton from the Waltons. Despite all the hardships, good times and bad, they still only had eyes for one another. Their repsect and love for one another never faultered for a moment. Even when they nothing, all they ever needed or wanted was each other..

Edward and Bella, Catherine and Heathcliff, and Romeo and Julliet!

Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester, every time. The cranky, craggy men with a soft side really get me going.

My favorite fictional couple is Edward and Bella in the "Twilight" saga. These two have chemistry that is just out the roof. I am not a teenager either I am 40 +. I really never could put my finger on the attraction that this movie had for me but I went to the movies and saw it six times and plus I bought the movie.
Kip and Hana from The English Patient (the book, although I liked the movie). Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester. Maurice and Sarah, The End of the Affair (movie) because it's so beautiful and tragic. The Lake House (Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves) I know it's a semi bad movie, but I loved it. All those love letters got to me.
Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe, even though I know that this is from an old series of books - Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery, I still love the love/hate story between them. I was just in Prince Edward Island, Canada where I saw a great musical - Anne and Gilbert in Love! It was excellent.

Ultimate couple: Jamie and Claire Fraser from the Outlander book series. Love, passion, and REAL (not to mention HOT). If you haven't read the first book (Outlander) buy it NOW. It makes Bella and Edward seem trivial (although Ed does have a place in my heart).
It's too hard to pick just one!! My top three are (in order) Tolstoy's Levin and Kitty. And then I would have to go with the Bronte sisters and say Jane and Mr. Rochester closely followed by Heathcliff and Catherine.

My fave fantasy couple was Tess McGill and Jack Trainer on Working Girl. I just love the way that he respected and trusted her after the jig was up and she was discovered that she was not some big wig but just a secretary. I love chemistry and the way they were able to put the HOT romance on the side and accomplish the deal. And at the end she gets her dream job! If only real life was like that! We just keep on busting our butts and no one cares! And if you happend to get a boss that does care then the job is downsized or eliminated. But our Tess was able to overcome all of that because she stuck to it!

Bruce Wayne and Rachael...because he is so wealthy and handsome, he could have anyone he wanted. But he is loyal to Rachael. It is completely awesome, especially the way this is portrayed in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. He is so protective of Rachael, and would do anything for her. He even tries to tell her he will give up being Batman just to be with her. There has never been a more charming man in a film---the way Christian Bale plays Bruce Wayne--the perfect gentleman!
Paul and Jamie Buchman, from the "Mad About You" T.V. show. Why? Their relationship was so strong - they were best friends, partners, and lovers. They laughed, they loved, they bickered. They got mad, and they made up. Their devotion to each other and to their marriage was admirable.

Rob & Laura Petrie from "The Dick Van Dyke Show." They had such a quirky, sweetness about them. Problems were resolved with humor & love.

Superman and Louis Lane!
I absolutely love Jim and Pam together. I don't watch much TV anymore, but in my middle school/high school days, I was a vehement Pacey/Joey supporter (Dawson's Creek). Oh, who am I kidding...my roommate and I just rented Season 3 a few months ago and we still yelled at the screen when they ended their affair. I guess old TV couple loyalties are hard to break.

But all-time favorite? Homer and Marge Simpson, hands down. Theirs is a love that truly endures.

I don't know why, but one of the first couples that popped into my mind was Mork and Mindy. I think I liked them so much because Robin Williams was so goofy and Mindy was so sweet and obliging. Obviously, I haven't watched TV in awhile.

Though I run the risk of sounding obsessed, I have to say my favorite so far is Carl and Ellie Fredricksen from Up. Their love is built of mutual interests, they're exceedingly loyal and dedicated to one another, and they manage to keep their small, working-class lives a constant adventure. Aww.

Tristan and Isolde. Devastating and wonderful. I also have to agree with Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.
The first couple that came to my mind was Meredith Grey and Dr. McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy. From hidden ex-wives, multiple near-death experiences, and medical traumas, their love has survived it all. When they finally got "married" on a post-it note in the hospital lounge I cried. (It could also be because Patrick Dempsey is just so salivatingly gorgeous that it's more of an un-requited love for him that's my real fantasy ... )

Rebecca, I totally agree with you on Elizabeth and Darcy. In fact, all the Austen romances are fantastic ... the courtships are so tender and romantic. I love Elinor and Edward in "Sense and Sensibility," Anne Elliott and Frederick Wentworth in "Persuasion," even Emma Woodhouse and Mr. Knightley in "Emma." But my all-time favorite, so-passionate-and-destructive-it-could-never-last, couple is definitely a tie between Anna Karenina and Count Vronsky in "Anna Karenina" and Catherine and Heathcliff from "Wuthering Heights." My ideal man is a cross between Darcy and Heathcliff ... yummy!

I know there are probably others, but the first thing that came to mind when I read this was Elizabeth Bennett and Fitzwilliam Darcy in "Pride and Prejudice." Every time they get together (finally!) I still love it.

My favorite love story of all time is Beauty and the Beast; I think the classic, unrequited love stories are the best. Currently, my favorite couple is Brennan and Booth on Bones. I like the switch—she is a rational, pragmatic scientist who believes love is only a chemical reaction and he is an emotional, passionate guy who believes in true, romantic love. Plus, they have great chemistry.
