Are We Having Fun Yet?

It was my son’s first Christmas, he was seven-months-old and of course the center of attention. As family gathered at my parent’s house, music played and a mouthwatering feast was being prepared by my father (the resident chef).

I had sat my son, Dustin, on the floor in the living room and sat in a nearby chair to keep an eye on him. My brother Michael came into the room and began playing with my son. In the course of their interaction, Michael picked up a bow from one of the presents nearby and attempted to stick the bow on Dustin’s forehead. After repeated attempts to do so, and the bow not cooperating, (it just wouldn’t stick). All the while Dustin kept looking at Michael with a little bit of a scowl as if to say, “Is this supposed to be fun?” Failing to get the bow to stick, Michael abandoned his attempts and left the room.

I waited a few moments and then decided I would see if I could get the bow to stick and I would take Dustin’s picture. As I picked up the bow, much to my surprise, I found that the bow did not have a tape backing … it was the kind with a pointed plastic tip that punches a hole in the box or package it is put on! I immediately looked at Dustin’s forehead to find a number of small dots where the tip had poked him! I began to laugh and called my brother in to see what he had done.

Dustin really wasn’t injured and never cried out during this “pin the bow on the baby” game and the whole family just cracked up at the whole scene. We enjoy reminding Michael of his antics each Christmas. Dustin is now twenty-four-years old and jokingly blames his uncle for any “brain damage” he may have received.
