Resolutions can be something we dread. We start out with good intentions—I will lose 20 pounds, I will pay off all of my debt, I will, I will, I will … but then, shortly into the New Year (speaking for myself), I fall off the resolution wagon.
This year, I wanted to make resolutions for myself that would feed my creative spirit and so, I present: Creative You {and me} New Year’s Resolutions.
- Make a list of the different crafts/arts/creative outlets you think you might want to try—the options are endless.
- Breakdown your list prioritizing your choices according to what most appeals to you.
- Once you have your list and know what you want to do first, determine what you will need in terms of instruction. You Tube, friends, relatives, local co-ops, DVDs, books, and magazines are all great options. There are also many online classes you can participate in.
- If your first “learning option” does not work, don’t give up. Remember, this is a dream or a desire and it was important enough to make your list so be persistent.
- Gather the materials you will need. Consider frugal options using coupons when available and/or shopping at thrift stores (one person’s toss off can be your treasure). I have seen bags of yarn, knitting needles, fabrics, and more at thrift stores.
- Set goals including broad time lines for your new creative endeavor. Don’t be too stringent. You want this to be your creative outlet.
- Once you have mastered your art, consider making your wonderful creations to give as gifts. Your gift recipient will appreciate your hard work and thoughtfulness and you will be sharing your newfound talents.
