Loving karaoke is just about finding "your song". When I lived in Bangkok, we went and karaoke'd with the locals every Thursday night. There was Mr. Fat (Thai's give the nickname that suits you best) among them and he sang a mean rendition of "Paradise City". Over time, I found my "songs". The Eurythmics, Bonnie Raitt, and The Pretenders...now if they only had Everything But The Girl on those cheesy books at the karaoke bar...then I'd really be in heaven. BTW, I've summoned my American friends to my first karaoke date in years in a week...I hope they come.
I love karaoke! Even have my regular songs I trot out on those occasions when a bunch of friends and I try to monopolize the mike. I definitely prefer the anything goes atmosphere of a bar better than small karaoke rooms, though, even if that's more the Japanese thing. Sure, there might be some people there I don't know, but hey! They might be awesome. Or awesomely fun to watch enjoying themselves.
So true!! Attitude is everything.
Finally - someone else on this planet who agrees that karaoke is actually fun! I can email this to all my friends who make fun of me mercilessly for loving it so much!
