Predictions and Fantasies

Oh no, here we go again. No, it’s not the NFL season that I’m talking about, it’s another %$# hot flash! Oh, alright, it’s passing. Good, I can think again.

Hello from Femmefan
We’ve been dormant of late, and getting a little nick/tuck to hide the sagging jowls. After all Femmefan.com is nine years old, that’s about 550 years in Internet years. But we are nothing if not persistent. We have outlived all of our competitors. Femmefan, the first Web site to target women who are avid sports fans, is now nine years old. Since our launch in March of 2000 the world has discovered us, and you, the female fan. Still, even with all the attention, the sports industry is still trying to market to us using old standards, the fashionista approach. Pink shirts, tiny thongs (I have socks bigger than them), and oh those so teeny, weeny, little t-shirts. The lack of sports attire for women was one my main bitches when I started Femmefan in 2000.

We have come a long way baby. Even Alyssa Milano has her own line of female fan apparel; I think that would be considered progress. Femmefan understands that we are not all a bunch of bimbos (we admit there are a few out there). But mostly we’re just women who love sports with a passion. Through it all, and in spite of it all, here we are. We wait with bated breath for the kickoff of the 2009 NFL Season!

Making my 2009 NFL Predictions
As I searched the magazine racks at Barnes & Noble for the SI NFL preview issue I was struck by the mountain of Fantasy Football magazines. The last time I cared about fantasies was in a motel with mirrors on the ceiling. But I digress. I was hoping to find SI and their 2009 season preview. But there were none to be found. So I did the only thing I could do, I went ahead and bought two 2009 NFL fantasy magazines. Didn’t even need to wear dark glasses and hide them in brown paper bags!

I am of the opinion that if you play fantasy football, you are cheating on your first love. Fantasy football is the slutty mistress that is tempting football fans to be disloyal to their team. So with the very limited information garnered from the Fantasy magazines, and with only a limited number of preseason games under my TV watching belt I have done what I do every year at this time. I have put my reputation on the line (not much to lose there) and made my NFL 2009 predictions. *Be forewarned I do not give any credence to anything the expert prognosticators think. For now, I will only project the team rankings by division. We’ll get more daring as the season progresses.

NFC East
Eagles—Vick and McNabb, sounds like double trouble for the rest of the division.
Cowboys—Roy Williams can not fill TO’s shoes.
NY G-Men—They are going to struggle offensively.
Redskins—Oh dear, more money, less talent.

NFC North
Very interesting division, anything can happen.
Vikings—Brett-favrelous will enhance the team, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Packers win the division
Packers—they have a great defense and Rodgers is getting better
Bear—DA Chicago Bears will be very tough. This is another team that can surprise now that they have Cutler.
Lions—Oh my

NFC South
Falcons—Their young QB will be throwing a lot of balls Tony Gonzalez’s way.
Saints—The defense has to show up, is Bush back?
Panthers—Jake has to have his best season throwing to Smith
Bucs—Too many issues this season

NFC West
Arizona—There are a lot of experts picking Seattle, but the Cardinals are offensive animals
Forty Niners—This may be very optimistic, especially without a franchise QB, but stranger things have happened
Seattle—Hassleback is back, but lots of questions left unanswered
Rams—Too many issues, not enough talent

AFC East
Patriots—The Belichick machine rarely falters
Miami—They need a new version of the Wildcat, but will compete
Jets—Mark Sanchez’s trail by fire will singe his ears
Bills—Another fine mess in Buffalo

AFC North
Steelers—Big Ben and the Steelers are early Super Bowl picks
Ravens—Defense keeps them in play
Browns—A surprise with Mangini at the helm
Bengals—Another tough season for Palmer and Marvin Lewis

AFC South
Colts—Are the Colts and Peyton ready to go all the way with Dungy?
Titans—Kerry Collins will find himself on the bench with VY leading the Titans
Jaguars—Garrard will struggle
Texans—They will take a step back this season
