Please send us all the money you can,
there are starving children over here.
This was the message from the man on TV,
who spoke with his eyes wet with tears.
But there is a lady, here in the USA,
who never responded to this sad fare.
It’s not that she is a heartless person,
it’s not that this lady does not care.
For she is not a terrible person,
she would be glad to help children in strife,
but you see, she has things to deal with,
things that affect her family and their life.
No, she never heard this sad story,
not a radio or TV does she own.
But if she had them, it would do no good,
you see, she has no power in her home.
What she does have are three children,
whose cries of cold and hunger cause her fear,
and a faithful but disheartened husband
who has been out of work for almost a year.
So, I send this message to you, the powers that be,
so that this family will not seem so all alone,
send the money that you collect to these folks,
for a change, let’s take care of our people at home.
