Volunteering in America

Trying to start the New Year out on the right foot? Let me pass along some information that you may not know. Most Americans never volunteer. That is never, ever!

For a country who has so much, we are a pretty self-absorbed bunch of people. Of the people who do volunteer, must only volunteer at their church and then they only average one hour per month.

I raised four children and I took them with me to volunteer for community organizations. They learned that everybody makes a difference. And even if you do not have money to give, there is something that you can do to help others. Can you just image what we could get done if every person in the US over the age of eight and under the age of eighty volunteered one hour every month? The cities and states could have more money, because volunteers could pick up in the parks an along the roadways. You and your child could volunteer to clean a parking lot that belongs to the town. You could mow someone’s lawn, who is unable to do so. Little things add up quickly when you have people who want to make a difference, plus it makes you feel good about yourself.

Give one hour a month, that’s twelve hours in a year that you won’t watch TV, or over eat, or think about yourself. And that twelve hours from everyone equals a better place for everyone to live.
