Japan After the Earthquake

An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 hit the country of Japan on Friday, March 11, 2011. The earthquake struck Japan at 12:46 a.m. EST. The earthquake hit near the coast of Honshu, Japan.

The earthquake happened offshore. It was the largest earthquake in Japan’s history. The earthquake unleashed a twenty-three-foot tsunami. The earthquake was followed by more than fifty aftershocks. Most of the aftershocks were more than a magnitude of 6.0. There was major damage that was caused by the earthquake. The death toll is said to be more than 1,000.
