Memorial Day has always been special for me. Memorial Day for me, represents America at its finest hour. I always spend the day having more than a few beers and watching all the old World War II movies and documentaries.
Last night I listened to President Bush blast Senator Obama for wanting to meet with those nations and leaders that are considered enemies of the United States and Israel. Well I love Israel and the Jewish people. However, I am of the opinion that President Bush should realize that it is not senator Obama who is responsible for the anger and hatred that the Islamic world has against the United States. Perhaps the Senator is trying to buy the world more time, before another, far more destructive war takes place.
Bush and his administration were the ones who got us into this war. A war that we should never have started! Now we have many more enemies among the Arab nations. The United States is now viewed by the world as a nation of duplicity and double standards. And if that were not enough we have not even located the person responsible for 9/11. Great job George!
This was certainly not the case during World War II. The United States performed brilliantly during this conflict. We were in the right war, for the right reasons. God was on our side; the same can be said for World War I.
On Memorial Day I always feel very proud of the United States. And proud of the thousands of men and women who gave their lives in the fight against Hitler and Imperial Japan. We freed Europe, saved England from total destruction and drove the Japanese out of Asia. Now that’s greatness!
Memorial Day is a day that every American should celebrate. It represents a time when America was the world leader, highly admired and respected, even by our enemies. Even in the African-American community (of which I am a part of), and which has been highly critical of past U.S. military conflicts, we honor America’s greatness and victories in the two world wars. It should be that way!
Memorial Day represents a different time. A time of stronger values, morals, and incredible political leadership, a time to honor brave men and women, a time to be proud of our nation—what happened?
