It’s been nineteen months now.
Nineteen months, since, after years of struggling, I was forced to quit work due to illness.
Nineteen months since I applied for social security disability benefits. Benefits I worked hard for decades to earn.
Despite the fact that I have two medical professionals vouching for my disability and I’ve provided mountains of paperwork, I have been denied social security benefits twice. I am now awaiting the verdict on my third attempt.
America is supposed to be a great country. It isn’t. No great country would treat its disabled citizens that way.
No great country would allow children to go hungry. America does.
No great country would allow children to be homeless. America does.
No great country would force senior citizens to choose between food and medicine. America does.
No great country would spend millions on weapons the military can’t even use. America does.
No great country would allow ginourmous corporations to make billions in profits and pay zero taxes. America does.
America isn’t a great country.
It’s a horrible country.
