How many of us have asked, “Is this what America is all about?” when we hear in the news stories on murders, deaths, and suicides? I know I have, multiple times! So, is there really an answer to that? I mean, millions of people in the U.S. have no health care, no jobs, and no houses. With this image in mind, let’s take a quick trip across the world. Now, what do you see? Possibly thousands, sick, dying, living as hostages of war. Is America really that different from the rest of the world, as we claim?
Usually, when you think of patriotism, you think of flags, Independence Day, fireworks, freedom. These days, those things may be the last on everyone’s minds. Chances are, at the top of that list are concerns for the homeless, taxes, foreclosures, and those types of things. Is it possible that really, patriotism is something different from the happy images? Could it really be believing that life will turn out fine, that the economy will change? Hmmmm. There’s something to thing about!
Probably, after reading this, you are wondering if the answers to these questions really exist. Well, they do! Here are about six things that Americans have that some other places in the world don’t.
- Clean drinking water. Little African children have to clean all of their water before they drink it, so they won’t die from disease!
- Shelter. Whether in a homeless shelter, an apartment, or a house, we all have somewhere to stay.
- Food. Even if we get it from a soup kitchen, it will always be present in American’s lives!
- A government. Some places have no government, no way to establish laws, and no order.
- Freedom. Thanks to the Civil War, there is no slavery! We can treated as equals and enjoy equal rights.
- Peace. Sure, we may be in Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan, but at least there is no immediate war here
Going by this, we really do have a legacy. Maybe we will make it, after all!
