Recent news release indicates the state of Maryland is now recognizing same-sex marriages from other states. Although many applaud this long awaited triumph, countless more find this disturbing and immorally incorrect. Question is why haven’t other states implemented the same policy?
For those who have forgotten, this is the United States. And as citizens of the United States same-sex couples are awarded the same protection and rights under the U.S. Constitution as heterosexual couples. However, its apparent many American’s today are less appreciative of the enactments the Constitution imposes, and instead, believe it is unconstitutional to allow same-sex marriages.
However, Article Four of the United States Constitution in short, guarantees the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects ... And Article Nine stipulates that certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
Yet, countless people continue lining up to vote against same-sex marriage, as if it is their duty to deprive another citizen of their right to happiness or to feel secure in their person. Granted, all American born citizens are still being held captive by laws enacted by our ancestors, which by the way, never conceived the idea of same-sex marriage ever being voted on in their life time.
Nevertheless, while many continue debating over our ancestor past choices, which seemingly still haunt us, many lives are being ravished by unjust and inhumane treatment. Could someone please explain to me how in the world did heterosexuals ever acquire the right to vote rather homosexuals have the right to marry or not?
First, most people know, heterosexuals have enough problems maintaining their own relationships. In fact, on any given day, countless are combing through search engines seeking marriage counselors or one-on-one therapy sessions with their minister, hoping to resolve their botched relationships and or, inevitable divorces.
While this is evident and quite obvious, heterosexuals have no inclination on the significance of same-sex relationships or any clue as to the depth of one. And as a result, our nation remains entangled by the issue of same-sex marriage, as if it is a personal business concern to overindulge oneself in the happiness of our fellow man or woman.
Have we forgotten the most important aspect of being an American … freedom? Seemingly, possessing freedom has become less appreciated in our country. So much, it seems our nation is slowly headed towards a monarchy, one that will place those less fortunate at a far greater disadvantage than those who are well to do … well to do what the hell they very well please.
Be it same-sex, gay, trans, straight or bi, well to do means having the tenacity to tell the world to kiss your ass, because you acknowledge and recognize your citizenship as an American citizen, and you understand you have the right to be who the hell you desire to be, with whom ever you elect to be with. Furthermore, no religious doctrine, voter enactment, minister’s speech or propaganda is going to prevent you from living your life to the fullest … now that’s the American attitude.
Despite what many believe, the right to marriage shouldn’t be a question rather anyone of the same-sex should be allowed to marry or not. Although many have felt it was God that ordained man to leave his mother and father to marry and become one with his wife; this assumption has been over-rated.
In fact, in the book of Genesis, chapter two verse twenty-three it reads, “And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
Nevertheless, although it is written that Adam imposed such a belief, countless continue debating that it was God who ordained man to solely wed with woman. Contrary to popular belief, God never wanted humankind to know anything at all. In fact, if you’re familiar with the book of Genesis and the story of Adam and Eve being beguiled by the Serpent, you’d realize- God forbid them from eating from the tree of knowledge.
