Let’s be real, not all the time we like, much less feel love for everyone around us. It is about personality, likes and dislikes, or as I say sometimes, old karmic loads. Every day you encounter people who look at you with disdain, a trace of envy or plain indifference. What do you do when you meet people like this? Do love really works to lower down their iron shield? How could you avoid been dragged into their negative energy?
Love has been forever confused with an extreme feeling where everything seems perfect and joyful. It is closely related with passion and lovers living the perfect fairy tale. Love is not always about feelings but about our minds and the positive attitude we bring to our daily life. It is about learning to use all our senses with acceptance and compassion.
The following steps have helped me to truly love my fellow brothers and sisters in God. They have helped me in throwing love, even if that person is not really “in tune” with me and what I am:
1. Acceptance is the key. Learn how to accept and respect people just the way they are. What would the world be if we were all the same?
2. Kindness is the road to loving relationships. Be kind with yourself and spread kindness to those who are still trying to figure out their own path. Do we all learn the same lessons at the same pace? It takes time. Be kind enough to understand it.
3. Compassion leads us to paradise. When was the last time you acted out of compassion? The basis of a compassionate heart is non-judgment. Stop judging yourself and others. Diane Berke once said: “The major block to compassion is the judgment in our minds. Judgment is the mind’s primary tool of separation.”
4. Unconditional love is the greatest gift you can give yourself and others. This is the kind of love that accepts, embraces, let go of selfishness, and is never disappointed because it never expects anything in exchange for what we give. It is given in total freedom. This is the one that grows in the soul.
You might be thinking that in times of turmoil and an apparent world crisis, it is difficult to practice love. I tell you that this is precisely the time and place when we most need to incorporate it in our lives. Today, take a look at that person who always seems to be clashing with you. Make the intent to accept without questions, be kind without asking why, feel compassion without judging, and surround that divine being with your unconditional love. Each human being out there, whether we accept it or not, is our own mirror. I assure you your life will be changed forever because indeed, love is that powerful tool we were given to live and enjoy a miraculous life.
