What To Do If a Tornado Hits Your City

If you are outdoors:

  • Get inside if there are any buildings around. If there are no building around, get to a place that has no trees or power lines near.
  • Get into a fetal position. The fetal position is getting on the ground and putting your hands on your head. You want to put your hands on your head because it will protect your skull and brain from damage.

If you are indoors:

  • Get to a place in the building where there are no windows and objects that will fall. You do not want to be near windows because the tornado may hit the building that you are in and cause glass to fly around. You do not want to be near objects that will fall because the object will probably fall on you and injure you or possibly kill you.
  • Get in fetal position. The fetal position is getting on the floor and putting your hands on your head. You want to put your hands on your head because it will protect your skull and brain from damage and an injury.
  • Get out of the building when it is safe to do so. You will want to get out of the building because the building may be on fire. If the building is on fire, you will have only two minutes to get out of the building.
  • Get as far away from the building as you can. You do not want pieces of the building that is on fire to fall on you.
