Leave it to a former supermodel to come up with a super approach to covering the issues moms talk about most.
Like being overwhelmed, overextended, or over budget. And there’s plenty more where those feelings come from, according to superstar entrepreneur and mother of three, Kathy Ireland.
The woman behind the brand that extends to jewelry, home furnishings, skincare, candles, and a whole lot more is behind Real Solutions for Busy Moms: Your Guide to Success and Sanity. The new book serves up solutions for everything from finding “me time” or keeping it together when trying to throw a party to more serious matters of dealing with problems in a marriage or getting kids off the couch.
“I communicate with moms every day and they aren’t coming to me for a beauty tip or advice on how to dress,” says Kathy. “They tell me that they’re struggling with balancing the responsibilities of marriage, raising children, managing a household or career or both, and finding time to take care of themselves. They have financial concerns. They want more empathy or encouragement. They want personal growth. They want positive changes in their life. They need real solution to the new problems they face every day, sometimes every minute.”
Ireland, a master at communicating with audiences on topics from women’s health to Christianity, doesn’t pretend to have all of the answers. Instead, she addresses pressing issues from several perspectives. In some cases, she knows firsthand what she’s talking about when it comes to financial issues, setting personal and family priorities and more. And anecdotes from her life’s experiences, as well as real-life tips and techniques from experts make for a well-rounded offering to readers.
For some of us moms who can’t take another book, blog or podcast bent on telling us what we need to do to be a better parent, Ireland makes us think twice. Not only does she cover familiar turf (“Your Best You” or “Taking Care of Mom”) but she takes on difficult conversations about HIV/AIDS, HPV, cyber-bullying, guns, and dealing with rejection, debt and broken dreams.
The takeaway from Ireland’s conversational, between-us-girls book will differ for every reader, but one thing is clear: This is one you’ll want to read more than once and pass along to other moms when you’re done.
