Last week, the gals over at Daily Grommet sent a little gift my way and I am absolutely loving this product. Laundry Tree Soapnuts are derived from the fruit of a tree (Sapindus Mukorossi) found primarily in India, Indonesia, and Nepal, and they are an excellent alternative to traditional, chemical-laden laundry detergents.
How do they work? They are harvested, de-seeded, and then dried in the sun. They are totally natural—organically grown and chemical-free—and they are incredibly gentle on clothes and skin. They are especially great for those with sensitive skin and because they are biodegradeable, they’re better for the environment.
I was skeptical that they could do the trick on my boys' dirty clothes. One of my sons has very sensitive skin so I routinely use dye and fragrance-free detergents. For this reason alone, I was willing to give the soapnuts a try. I did a load, and then another and then another. Once I went a little crazy and sprinkled one of the essential oils on to the little canvas pouch. My sheets came out with just the slightest hint of scent. And the unexpected bonus: My laundry room smelled amazing!
