Italian food is my weakness. My go-to daydream, whenever I’m feeling particularly dreary, is envisioning myself at a chic Venetian café, sipping a cappuccino and savoring a delicious teacake. But even if my wallet only affords Starbucks, not St. Marks Square, I love nothing more than a biscotti and a hot drink.

That’s where Biscotti di Vecchio comes in. Instead of the typical almond and chocolate flavors, Biscotti di Vecchio, brainchild of Danielle di Vecchio, offers a wide array of unique, complex flavors. Though I’ve only sampled a few (Cayenne Cherry Chocolate Chunk; Sundried Tomato, Basil and Cheddar; Black Pepper Asiago Parmesan; Rosemary, Thyme, and Walnut; Cranberry Orange Zest; Pistachio Chocolate Chocolate Chunk; and Toasted Almond), the flavors were rich and delicious.

Since I couldn’t possibly sample them all, I asked a few of my coworkers what they thought of the diverse flavors. Cayenne Cherry Chocolate Chunk (the company’s most popular flavor, according to Ms. Di Vecchio) was a favorite in my office as well. Several people loved the tinge of spice that lingered in the aftertaste, and agreed that it would make a great coffee-dipping treat. Toasted Almond was simple, but delicious; Cranberry Orange was a bit bland, however, and had a very tough texture. I almost broke a crown biting through it.

Although most of my (admittedly small) group of taste-testers disliked the savory flavors, I loved the Black Pepper Asiago Parmesan. I can’t imagine having it with a cuppa, but with some delicious goat cheese, it would be heaven. It’s certainly better suited to cocktail hors d’ouevres than the four o’clock slump, but it’s scrumptious nonetheless.

So the next time you find yourself reaching for that calorie-filled muffin, try a delicious biscotti instead. Biscotti di Vecchio serves up intriguing—and tasty—flavors, and I’m sure you’ll find yourself as transported as I was.
