At first glance, yoga class in the car might seem strange, or even a little dangerous. It turns out that you can do yoga and drive at the same time. In fact, doing yoga while you drive can actually make you a better driver!

My road test was a 3 hour drive to Los Angeles in notoriously horrible rush hour traffic. I popped the CD in and just followed along... little squeezes and stretches got me feeling limber and relaxed. Author, Elaine Masters, repeats reminders for drivers to be aware of the road and surrounding traffic. Her breathing exercises actually increase alertness and awareness of other drivers, and brought me back again and again to the present moment, when I would otherwise have been distracted by thoughts about how I might not arrive in time, might not be able to find my destination, etc.

Aside from bringing me calm composure as I drove, Drivetime Yoga provided a yoga class that fit my schedule! I didn't have to feel guilty for failing to find the time or money or yoga outfit to participate in a local yoga class. Quite simply, Drivetime Yoga is a win-win-win! I'm eagerly anticipating Elaine's next offering, Flytime Yoga, all about keeping your cool while navigating airports and flying.

Thanks for the great review, Alice. I know that drive San Diego to L.A. can be crazy making. I look for ways to turn my car into a refuge and always feel better for stretching and using calming breath work on the way, but nothing beats a full, on the mat Yoga class. Drivetime Yoga will enhance and extend whatever exercise program you follow (while getting you more in touch with what your body needs moment by moment). There's a free Test Drive on the website:http://www.DrivetimeYoga.com.

A good book keeps you reading until the end. A great book pulls you completely into the story, so much so that you can’t talk or think about anything else. Which book would you put in the latter category? Which changed your perspective the most? Write about it. >>
