One of the best things about life is how unexpected it can be. That is the magic of the now. There is nothing to look for in the past. It is gone! The future will not come unless we fully and passionately live our today. Then, do not worry about it. Do not allow your energy to be diluted into the waters of planning for a day that could or could not arrive. Live your best life today!
Three weeks ago, I was confidently coming down the stairs; the same eighteen steps I have been walking for the last six years, every day. That night, something went wrong. I missed that very last step, fell, and felt an excruciating pain that resulted in two broken bones on my left foot. The self-elected time off I was enjoying before embarking in a new and exciting journey came to a halt. You might be thinking, well, accidents happen every day, and I agree. For me, though, being restrained and thrown to a seated mandatory position, hooked to a heavy boot, and attached to a pair of crutches, translated into an “inside the cage unknown” experience. For someone like me, a person described by others as “a go-go,” “free spirited,” “totally unpredictable,” or the latest, “topsy-turvy,” this has been a lesson in stillness, literally.
I have cried but also learned about peace, forgiveness, and the powerful transformation through silence. I have experienced the strength of love when I see my daughter lovingly taking care of me, making sure that all my needs are met and that I am feeling happy. I have heard the messages from my friends and their prayers for healing. This has been the best example of the cause-effect law in action. As you sow, you will harvest. Give unconditional love and you will inevitably get it back threefold.
I still have four more weeks to go. My foot is certainly healing and I am too. Every day a new lesson unfolds. From these four walls, I have been able to finally let go and forgive people who once I thought had hurt me. Through the pages of books I have been asked to read, I have found hidden messages that were meant for me to be heard now. I have attained a new and higher level of appreciation for simple things taken for granted; a sunrise, the words I say, and the thoughts I deliver to the world.
The truth is that my broken foot turned out to be a blessing in disguise, opening my eyes and senses to miracles which otherwise would probably go unnoticed. Look around. What do you see? Don't wait until you miss a step. Go out there, be grateful, and live your best story, not tomorrow but now.
